A new lease on life is something I never expected when I began my weight loss journey along with making lifestyle changes. It literally never crossed my mind. Having been extended a new lease on life was truly a pleasant surprise. When I take into account what a lease could mean, I think about how people lease cars, apartments, houses and even office spaces, just to name a few.
When I reflect on the leasing of cars, people generally do this every two to three years. The fresh new smell of the interior, the brand new shiny paint, the smooth running engine, as well as the dependability, is no doubt the driving force behind the reason some people prefer to lease a new vehicle from time to time, rather than pay for one and then drive it a few years before purchasing a new one.
When a person, like myself, receives a new lease on life, the results are similar. The outward appearance of the person changes for the better. The many body functions on the inside run and perform so much smoother. You can really feel the difference in the smooth operations of how well the body is functioning in all of the day to day jobs and processes it performs to keep you healthy and strong. As a result, you become a more dependable person, because of all you are able to do with a good functioning body. When I took a closer look at all of these benefits I have received, it certainly made the achievement of a new lease on life so worthwhile.
There is, of course, a major difference between a new lease on life, and a new lease of a car or other material things. A new lease on life is much higher in value than that of a car or other material things. In fact, a new lease on life is priceless! To achieve something like this that is of such high value made me realize how fortunate I was and that I needed to do everything possible to show my appreciation by the way I lived my day-to-day life. It means I need to keep healthy habits, a good balanced diet, and a regular exercise program, so as to safeguard my new lease on life. It is something I never want to take for granted.
Having a new lease on life reminds me of an expression I have heard over the years, but I never gave it much thought until now. The expression says, “Anything worth having is worth working for.” There are some things in life that people in general will work hard to achieve. They will invest time, money and effort into getting a college education. In addition to an associate’s or bachelor’s degree, many chose to pursue a masters as well as a PHD, and this is certainly commendable. People will also work hard to have a nice home, car and even a successful business of their own. All of these things are worth working for. Achieving these goals in life gives a person a good feeling of satisfaction.
But then, I thought about the work involved in order to have a new lease on life and how worthwhile and rewarding this is. Not only would a new lease on life extend a person's years, but it would also better their quality of life so they can enjoy all these other things they have worked so hard to achieve. When I look back on all the hard work I had to do to get to where I am today, it was truly worth it for me to be able to enjoy the wonderful experience of a new lease on life. It has helped me have deep respect for the way we are made and the body’s ability to make significant changes, even when a lot of repairs are needed.
Having knowledge of this made me see how easy it can be for me to make the same mistake. Keeping strict discipline has helped me stay within the boundaries required to safeguard my new lease on life. I must admit, keeping strict discipline is not always easy, but I know that it is in the best interests of my health to do so. Sometimes, as grown adults, we may forget that we must be disciplined. When we were kids, our parents kept us disciplined, but, as we reach adulthood, it becomes our job to discipline ourselves. When it comes to having a healthy way of life, the discipline is so worth it!
