As I began my weight training, I once again took advantage of the many opportunities to observe others and the way they would use the various machines. One very interesting thing I learned was that there are several ways to work the same machine. From a glance at first, and being a beginner, I thought there was only one way to work each machine. I could see from what I had learned early on that I would receive many benefits and this would help my progress.
The first thing I had to learn was why it is so important to work each and every muscle group. I started educating myself through study and research. The educational part would be important so I could get the maximum benefit out of my weight training. Over the years, I have often heard the expression, “Knowledge is power.” I did not give this expression much thought back then, but I can truly appreciate its meaning today.
Weight training plays a vital role in getting the body in good physical shape. Weight training helps tighten and firm the skin from head to toe. I am glad I learned this upfront, when I first got started, because I was a morbidly obese person. Often times people who are obese or morbidly obese are unaware of this when they lose weight. This causes them to have loose, sagging skin all over their body.
It is so important to tighten and tone the skin with the weights from the very beginning, so as to avoid this problem. I have personally seen a number of cases over the years where this has happened to people who were not aware of this, and the loose sagging skin they were left with as a result. I am saddened when I see this happen to people. It makes me realize how fortunate I was to have learned this from the very beginning.
I always emphasize to people how important weight training is. The firming, toning and tightening allows the skin to keep up with the weight loss. This becomes even more important the further a person gets in their weight loss. This impressed upon me more why I needed to constantly educate myself throughout this entire process. The education would truly be the key, not only to my progress, but to my success as well.
I have received so many medical benefits from weight training. Weight training helps me keep my sugar and cholesterol levels normal. I share this with people I know who are diabetics or have high cholesterol. I stress to them that along with a change of diet, weight training really works wonders for keeping our numbers at normal levels.
Another important benefit I have received is seeing my metabolism increase over time. As we age, our metabolism slows down; however, it is good to know that this can be greatly improved with weight training. I am so amazed with the body’s ability to change, even as we grow older.
Having more body strength is another benefit I have received from weight training. All of my muscles needed a great deal of work to become strong again. Experiencing this increase of strength has motivated me to stay consistent with this part of my program.
